The North American underground death metal scene, a haven for the genre since its inception in the 1980s and peak in the early '90s, is in the midst of a resurgence. The only problem is many of the bands involved are not real death metal. Nevertheless, an elite set of new groups within the movement stay true to its pure elements--acts like Father Befouled, Funebrarum, Disma, and now Vasaeleth bring the darker, uglier side of death metal to the forefront. Hailing from Georgia and Texas, Vasaeleth are a new group featuring members from Legions of Astaroth and Dagon. They've released a well-received demo and EP, Adorned and Iridescent, both in limited quantities that sold out instantly.
